Crikey, the skeptics are fierce at the moment. And it makes me wonder what it is that really bothers them. After all people 'waste' their money on cigarettes, alcohol, junk foods and more that actively makes them ill. If you'd listen to them, there is nothing in homeopathy so it can't work. But by that argument it also can't do harm. So it's a nil- nil result. No good, no bad. Unlike the cigarettes, alcohol and junk food. No good but lots of bad. I choose to consult a homeopath. It's my money, my choice, my life. I no longer suffer from migraines or headaches and, to the best of my searching, over a time span of 18 years, conventional medicine didn't help with that one bit. Being involved in social media I see it a lot, this negative, critical and sometimes downright insulting attitude. I personally endeavour not to insult mainstream 'medicine'. There are aspects I may dislike and most of the time I'm pretty restrained. That's someone else's passion, their job, their life work. So live and let live. And yes, conventional medicine saves lives. I wouldn't want a world without some of the wonderful medicine we all know and take for granted. But that's not what I'm asking for. I'm not wanting to choose between one or the other. Neither do I expect my patients and clients to choose. We all know the placebo effect works, across every field - conventional and complementary medicine. And yet I can see babies who have a great result with homeopathy. My horse was my introduction to homeopathy - she had an incurable recurrent eye disease with limited conventional options. After homeopathic treatment? No recurrance for the next 15 years (at which point she died from a broken leg). Patients can seek assistance, find no real improvement the first month, then with more information a different remedy is selected and they return next month after much improvement. Surely if it were merely placebo at work they would be more likely to do great the first month and less well the second? I understand it's difficult, taxing to get your head around it. Maybe even impossible. And yet just 150 or so years ago people believed microbes didn't exist. It's not that long ago it was believed that the earth was flat. Science may not have caught up with it all but visible results are visible results. Maybe not from clinical trials. There are trials that support homeopathy and it would be great to have a whole lot more. But not of the ones that are designed to test just one remedy on one condition. For anyone that knows even a teeny bit about homeopathy, they'd know that's just not how we roll. We are looking at individuals, not just conditions, and this means there may be a remedy that suits you as a person but that may not suit a different person with the same complaint. Sitting in the consulting room however, day after day, homeopaths all over the world see results. I'm seeing a lady tomorrow who when I last saw a month or so ago, she was taking 180 less painkillers a month than she was before she started on homeopathic treatment. 180 less. She had no real thoughts of cure when she consulted me, and was feeling pretty despondent around the chance of improving even half as much as she had. I see people who tell me they feel 'better than they have done for ages' after struggling with complaints for years and trying conventional treatments with no success. How does it work? I don't know - I'll leave you with research scientist Alex Tournier to tell you a little more about some work he's currently doing. But does it work? I consider that a well prescribed remedy can have profound life changing effects that are rarely found outside of this work. For me, that's a resounding YES. I'm using up fruit at the moment, food in general as am preparing for a water fast. Having toyed with a 21 day fast, 13-14 days and am really tempted towards both I've in the end decided to make life easy and go with a 3 day fast. I say easy. I love my food - it'll be an interesting 3 days to say the least. However I'm going for it and am looking forward to the experience. As to why? I've been drawn to the idea for a while and instead of just looking at it I've decided to jump in and give it a go. 3 days is a reasonable start then I'll cruise onto watermelons for a few days of light eating before adding in more weighty fruits and veggies. There are loads of benefits of fasting and I'd advise you get hold of one of a multitude of books/check out YouTube videos or websites which can give information and guidance. I wouldn't advise anyone fasted - it's got to be a decision you make for yourself - however I do feel that there can be some great health benefits from it. More about it all later. What I really wanted to mention, and, once again I digress, was about bananas and their levels of ripeness. I made a video this morning to demonstrate how lovely inside a black banana can be and so will share it here: Isla's also made one a while ago so I thought would share that too: ![]() Homeopathy in the UK. It's been a funny old time recently, and yet I feel increasingly positive the tide is turning. We needed a wake up call, we needed to work together as an organisation and we needed to grow together as a profession. Which has been one of the gifts that the skeptic movement has given us. Many of us practice homeopathy slightly differently to each other, indeed just as many General Practitioners practice slightly differently to each other. We are working towards the same goal (both homeopaths and GPs too I guess albeit from even more different angles) - that of an increased level of health. For the Homeopaths amongst us that may include a lower dependence on medication, a greater feeling of wellness, as well as a concrete reduction in symptoms for the patient. Sometimes it's an education about living well as well as the remedy prescribed. It's an individual thing - and I believe it has to be. Afterall, my needs are very different from yours. It's the memory of the same goal, the same healing potential that we're aware of with this very incredible medicine that for me means it's essential to work as a coherent whole. We work with holistic medicine, so surely being holistic in our approach to each other is the way forwards? It is for me anyway - and to be honest in all areas. I want to see integrated healthcare where the medics and complementary practitioners work to each others' strengths. I feel we have much to give. Working with food choices, homeopathy and other complementary medicines can make significant changes and improvements in health. Working together, both parties can provide better care for the individual. However I digress. Tangents I am good at. Working together as a profession, as professional homeopaths is what 4 Homeopathy have created. A partnership between the leading registering bodies for homeopathic practitioners, patients groups, charities and other stakeholder organisations. And this is what I'm calling homeopathy lovers, facebook users and tweeters for. There is lots to do, much to be involved in and with and much we on the ground can help with. Have you benefitted from Homeopathic treatment? The Find a Homeopath website is collecting testimonials from patients who've found homeopathy and helped their complaints using it. It would be brilliant if you could take 2 minutes to share your story. Do you tweet? Follow @HomeopathyWFM - there's a fabulous, fresh new awareness campaign coming very soon. Facebook more your thing? Homeopathy Worked for Me is where it's at on facebook. You can like the page and follow updates as they evolve. YouTube? I love to listen to videos whilst I'm cooking - whether it be homeopathy, food or... well usually it's homeopathy or food. FindaHomeopath on YouTube enables you to listen to brilliant, world famous homeopaths in the comfort of your home. So check out the links, follow for brilliant information, and watch out for the really, really exciting awareness campaign that's coming very soon! With gratitude and love, Em x Obviously to be chanted in a batman-y kind of way. Obviously. Anyway tea, dinner, supper, food tonight was too good not to share. It's one of my favourites anyway but tonight's addition of mango made it super tasty. My brilliant camerawoman meant I didn't have to film and talk and create all at once. Although I think it may cost me. She drives a hard bargain. And does a great job. So without further ado... here's dinner! Let me know what you think! And Isla would love feedback on the video too - she's asked for me to get opinions...
Muchas gracias, Em x Just a few thoughts from the comfort of my desk. Food production and sustainability will feature heavily in the years ahead and we can make a difference to the impact on our world starting now. If we want.
I'm always happy to help with advice and assistance around making these changes - just give me a shout if you'd like to know more. I've just realised you can even spot our lovely 2014 calendar in the background which is available here. Get one whilst you still can - gorgeous, beautiful images of homeopaths around the world, out there in nature, and what's more, it's all in a calendar girls style. I've been thinking about sharing thoughts, videos, recipes etc on YouTube for some time. And was always put off - I need to do it properly - to have a camera, tripod, you know - the works (dressing team, make up artist, goffer boy....). But so many things make me think about how lucky I am to have the time I have right here, right now. So without putting my contact lenses in, thinking about what I'm wearing (it's OK I'm off to work so more than respectably dressed), or who was going to hold the camera - I did it. I made my first video of my breakfast green juice. It's an easy one to make - it's so tasty and feels great to drink and without further ado it's here to share with you: The process of making it has been great - I've learnt a lot from that in itself so please subscribe, like and share and there'll be more coming very soon!
