I'll send you instructions on how to start your adventure with homeopathy, but in case you want a little more detail, I thought I'd add a page to chat about it here.
Tablets:
Take in a clean mouth - don't eat or drink 5 minutes or so aside of taking the remedy. Put the tablet under your tongue and let it dissolve. Most of what I use are fairly small sucrose tablets which disappear pretty fast. I use sucrose instead of lactose so it's fine for most of those with allergies. Very occasionally the tablets are bigger and sometimes can take aaaaaages to dissolve - I'm known to crunch these up and am fine about this.
This is my guidance as opposed to hard and fast rule - so don't panic if you forget, or if you've a child and need to give the tablet in a glass of juice etc or in food. Our horse (long story other places elsewhere on the site) had her eye disease put into lifelong remission with 5 tablets - one a day, taken in a piece of carved out carrot with a remedy shaped hole. Crunch, crunch, gone. And thank you homeopathy, eye disease gone.
Liquid remedy:
Bang the bottle 5 times against the palm of your hand to shake it before taking. Then take (usually - I'll tell you if it's different) 3 drops and add to approximately 30mls water and drink (swish around your mouth a little first). Keep the bottle out of direct light and liquid remedies will frequently come with instructions to take it daily, though they are great to play around with and may be once a week or as needed becomes a pattern we settle to.
Coffee?
If you're drinking loads of coffee then it's probably a great idea to reduce this a little anyway, but if coffee is a huge issue for you, I don't want to create trouble by sending anyone away having to go cold turkey, so don't worry! We can work with it. Probably don't swill your remedy down with a coffee but I'm OK about you not cutting it out entirely.
If it's an acute?
I generally send advice on how often to repeat with a homeopathic medicine taken in a more constitutional approach, and at times acutes/minor ailments are a little different. In general when symptoms are intense I like to repeat a homeopathic medicine every 20-30 minutes or so, and do so for 3-4 doses. If it's not had any beneficial effect by then, the chances are you may be taking the wrong remedy, and it's back to the books. Once you feel an improvement stop taking it and wait. If the symptoms return then re-take the remedy. Always ask if you've any questions - and in emergency cases always phone for medical assistance first then consider taking an acute remedy if indicated.
Other medication?
I often think back to what one of my teachers said, an experienced practitioner of homeopathy as well as a qualified medic, which was that he'd never seen a well prescribed remedy be antidoted by conventional medication. Indeed colleagues of mine working in Tanzania where many of their patients are taking ARV (antiretroviral) meds see brilliant results. ARVs have some pretty horrendous side effects and they see homeopathy alleviating these as well as working well to improve the health of the person they're working with. So if it can work alongside that I'm happy.
I never suggest someone reduces their meds that someone else has prescribed. Aside from being unethical it would be pretty damn rude. People do sometimes come to me with the hope they'd be able to reduce or even stop other medications and I see homeopathy often helping to do so. It's important to discuss this with your doctor or prescriber.
Toothpaste?
Some say to stop using mint toothpaste whilst using remedies. Whilst I don't want to argue with others, I'm generally happy for people to continue as they're happy for their toothcare needs. If you're a really sensitive person we may need to look at this.
